What to wear to your photo shoot | Penrith family photography
One of the most common questions I’m asked during my clients’ pre-session consultation is “What should I wear and what should I dress the family in?”. No matter the type of session – whether you’re having some updated family portraits taken outdoors or you’ve had a new member added to the family, my advice is usually to opt for neutral tones as these tend to be timeless.

I generally advise clients to steer clear of bright, bold colours and large logos as these can detract from your lovely faces and we don’t want you looking at pics in years to come and thinking “why did I choose THAT shirt?” However, if your family’s personality is bright and you’re always in loud, colourful shirts then capturing your personality is what I’m aiming for, so wearing them may be perfect for your home.
While some clients opt for the whole family to wear matching outfits, this isn’t necessary. My advice is to wear colours and tones that complement each other. A little colour difference is nice and make for more natural-looking portraits.

Choose outfits that everyone will be comfortable getting up and down in, and bending their legs in both sitting and crouching positions.

For newborns, you don’t need to bring anything along to my studio as I have lots of outfits and wraps to complement your family’s attire. If you are having a sitting or first birthday portrait session, again I have outfits for your baby but do feel free to bring something special along if you have something in mind.
As part of my service and consultation, I am happy to take a look at any options you may have and we can decide together what will make your portraits extra-special.
