The importance of printing your photos | Penrith newborn and family photographer
Technology changes. Files corrupt. Computers fail. USBs get lost. Paper is a constant.
This is a topic that I am very passionate about. As a photographer, I document history. Yes, that’s a bold statement, but in reality it’s truth: I’m documenting my clients and their families just as they are in that moment. How your history is stored and displayed is important.
While it’s great to have digital files of the images you are curating throughout your life, have you thought about their longevity? Technology is ever-changing and there’s no guarantee we’ll be able to easily open digital files in 30, 20 or even 10 years’ time. You only have to look back at the floppy disc and CD as examples of this. And if you’re as old as me, you might even recall the mini discs that were all the rage in the early noughties but disappeared very quickly.
In fact, did you know that Apple’s MacBooks no longer come with the usual USB port – you now need to buy an adaptor? Check out Business Insider’s article.
Files and the media they are stored on can become corrupt, rendering your precious digital files unable to be opened. Computers and indeed hard-drives can fail. It’s important to always keep a backup of your files, to be on the safe side.
Technology is also a target of criminals. Thieves can take your precious memories with them if your computer, hard drive or laptop are stolen.
If they’re not printed, they’re not seen
While it’s great to have your photos digitally backed up, let’s be honest: they’re not going to be looked at sitting on a USB in a drawer. And if I had a dollar for every client who has told me that they still have precious photos sitting on a USB that they had all intentions of printing for their wall – even wedding photos – I would be a rich lady!
There really is nothing like seeing your gorgeous photos on your walls, in your hands or in an album you can hold and pass on to your children in years to come.
Turning history into art
There many ways to print and preserve your images: wall art such as canvases, framed prints, wood prints, matted prints in a keepsake box, acrylic blocks as a standout centrepiece, gorgeous heirloom albums…
The print products that I offer are designed for longevity and are printed by some of the best professional printers in Australia. My canvases have a 75-year guarantee, so they’re designed to stand the test of time. Clients can also customise their print products so they have something perfectly theirs.
As a professional photographer, I can help you create something unique that will suit your family’s needs and turn your house into a home. You’ve spent a lot of time getting ready for your photo shoot and may have even invested some money into getting the right outfit – don’t let all this effort waste away on a USB that may be left in a drawer and forgotten. Print your photos, look at them every day and enjoy them. Allow your family’s smiles, laughter and emotion to fill your home.
