5 amazing gender reveal ideas | Sydney Newborn photographer
We’ve seen the cake-cutting reveal, and perhaps you’ve watched Kate Hudson pop a balloon to show the world what she was having, but what other unique ideas are there?
Here are five fun gender reveal ideas to get your creative juices flowing – and some are DIY so they don’t have to break the bank, either.
Channel your inner Jimmy Fallon and play a game of egg roulette with your partner. In an egg carton, have 11 boiled eggs and one raw egg. Paint 6 blue and 6 pink, ensuring the gender of the baby is painted on the raw egg. Take turns cracking an egg on your own head. Check out this hilarious Youtube video to see how fun it can be:
“Pop the belly” game
This is a great one for getting your guests involved in your reveal. Fill up a bunch of balloons with white paint or powder (or no paint at all) and fill one balloon with the gender-revealing colour paint or powder. Give your guests a means to pop the balloons and see who pops the gender-revealing balloon first. There are also some fun confetti versions of this game ready to buy online.
Watch it in action and learn how to make it:
Got family and friends who don’t live closeby by want to include them in your gender reveal fun? Send a scratchie! You could also pop these on the guests’ chairs at your gender reveal party and watch everyone’s faces as they reveal your baby’s sex.
How to DIY scratchies:
“Here for the sex” cupcakes
A tongue-in-cheek version of the cake-cutting reveal. Make the inside of the cakes the colour of your gender reveal and use these toppers for a unique touch – and they’re sure to make your guests giggle.

Team pink or team blue
When sending the invites to your party, ask your guests to wear blue or pink to show which gender they think the baby will be. You could leave it there or, if you know the sex yourself, you could also dress up and make a grand entrance to announce the gender.
Or you could just have a giant baby jump out of a box.
