10 reasons why you should hire a newborn photographer
Have you ever heard your parents say how much they wish they had more photos of you when you were a baby? Or do you wish you had more images of yourself as a baby, or with your parents? Here are 10 reasons why you should hire a newborn photographer to ensure you have this special time captured forever.
- They’re only little for a little while
Everyone says it, and until you have your own you won’t really understand just how quickly they grow! In fact, many babies put on around 150-200g a week in the first few months. Capture those teeny tiny toes while they are just so.
- DIY photos aren’t the same…
They aren’t the same quality. We’ve all seen the “Nailed it” memes. Untrained persons won’t achieve the same poses and while your smartphone can capture some great candid shots, they just won’t be the same quality as a professionally shot image where the light, styling, angles and posing have all been carefully considered.
And then there are the safety concerns. A professional newborn photographer has been trained: they’ve attended workshops, completed courses, practised and practised some more. Newborns are supported and supervised during a session at all times. It’s not worth an injury to your precious baby if you aren’t sure about what you’re doing.
- Your first family portrait
Whether you’re a first-time parent or this is your second, third, fourth, fifth (you get my point), make your first family portrait something special and beautiful – something you can hang on the wall and smile at every time you pass it. A photographer can pose you all perfectly and ensure everyone is looking at the camera.
- Give yourself a gift
You’ve just been through the most amazing transformation: becoming a parent for the first or even second or third time. This is a beautiful time and in the haze of the sleepless nights and busy times it can be easy to forget to grab a camera and document it. Give your current and future self a gift by having beautiful portraits taken to remember this time.
- Give your own parents a gift
Most grandparents are incredibly excited – nay elated – to welcome another little person into the family. Share this great time with them and gift them a portrait of your new addition.
- Give your baby, and your baby’s babies, a gift
Yes, those photos you’ve snapped of your bub in the bath at home are precious – and highly likely to present themselves at the 18th birthday party – but what about having some professional portraits for your child to see when they are older, and to show their own children, too? Once you start thinking about these photos as more than just the one moment, you can see that they are truly priceless.
- “You look just like Uncle Jim when he was a baby…”
But do you, really? Document their teeny tiny features and when your child has their own children, they’ll be able to see if their bub has the same ears, nose, wrinkles…
- Those newborn features
There are some newborn features that disappear as your child grows and when they disappear it can be easy to forget they were ever there. Those milk spots on their little noses, stork marks, and some babies still have the last of their umbilical cord attached in the first couple of weeks. If you’re like me, you won’t want to forget any of it!
- Give yourself a break
For a couple of hours during the session, your baby is in the trusted hands of a newborn photographer. Take the time to sit down and relax and watch the session. It can even be quite a moving experience – I’ve had parents well up during my sessions as they gaze at their gorgeous newborns.
- Everyone wants to see your baby
Everyone loves to see a baby pic. And when you’ve had your baby everyone is going to ask for a photo and when you have professional portraits taken you’re going to want to splash that gorgeous face all over social media. Professional portraits are also perfect to use on announcement cards.
